Are your plants dying?

Are your plants dying

Are your plants dying there are two types of people: those who have enviable plants and those

who cannot make even the most resistant and grateful species grow. If you are part of the

second, in this post we are going to explain all the guidelines that you have to take into

account so that you can move on to primers and thus make your plants look healthy and leafy for many years.

Plants dying

For this to happen, it is not really necessary to spend a lot of time on them, just know what

care each plant needs and how to carry it out. In the same way that you find out about fashion trends, or about how to cook a certain dish, you will also need to know what your specific

species needs, because not all of them are the same or require the same attention.

But in general, these are  the 10 most common reasons why plants die:

  • Water: it is totally necessary, but not all species need the same dose, nor with the
  • same frequency. We tend to think that plants are dying from not watering them enough,
  • and yet this is not always the case: in most cases the opposite is true. Excess water,
  • something we tend to sin about, can be just as bad as not watering, since it will rot the
  • roots and kill the plant.
  • Light: the same thing happens with light. While it is true that all plants need it to grow,
  • too much sun can burn the flowers and even the leaves. Therefore, it is convenient to
  • know if the plants that we have at home need direct or indirect light, and depending
  • on this, place them in one place in the house or another.
  • Pruning : this topic is more delicate. When we properly plant a plant, we help it to
  • grow and expand, but it must be done properly. For this, it must be taken into account
  • that each plant must be pruned at a specific time of the year and in a certain way.
  • Therefore, we recommend that, if you have any questions about how to do it, ask a professional from the place where you buy it.
  • Transplants : like pruning, transplants are very beneficial for plants, but if not done properly, we can cause them to die. Not all species need the same space to grow: there
  • will be some that survive in small pots, while others will have to be moved to a larger container within a few months of acquisition. It is also important to take into account
  • the type of soil, since in some cases the most suitable is not the generic one, so you will
  • also need to ask for advice on this aspect.
  • Environment : One of the reasons that houseplants do not survive in homes is because
  • the environments are often very dry. The heating of the houses and the air conditioning
  • units dry out too much, and this affects them a lot.
  • Pests : it is a very common reason, and to avoid it, it is appropriate to observe them on
  • a regular basis, to see if they are suffering from some type of plague or disease. If so, we
  • can save them by following the appropriate treatment.
  • Nutrients : the amount of nutrients is also important. In some species, this must be
  • more abundant than in others, so we must know if the soil in which they are planted
  • does not offer a sufficient dose and it will then be necessary to regularly add the amount required in each case.
  • Soil : in addition to knowing if the soil provides the plant with adequate nutrients, we
  • must bear in mind that it must be changed from time to time. It is convenient to fill the
  • pot from time to time, since when we water it we lose parts. Also, for most species it is
  • highly beneficial to completely change the soil at least once a year.
  • Temperature : another essential aspect in the care of plants. Take into account not
  • only the degrees of the exterior, but especially those of the interior when you use the
  • heating or air conditioning. Sudden changes will not benefit your plants at all.
  • Movement:  it is not convenient to constantly move the plants from one place to another. They take time to adjust to the light, temperature and environment, and if you
  • move them around too often, you will make it difficult for them to adapt.

Your plants

If you take these 10 aspects into account and find out well about the special characteristics of

your plants and the care they need, you will be able to preserve a leafy plant corner that will brighten your home for a long time.
