Who is the inventor of the telephone? If like most of us you have answered Alexander Graham Bell , let me tell you that you have been half right. And it is that Mr. Bell only patented it. Join us to know the history and curiosities of the telephone.

History:

In 1854, the Italian Antonio Meucc i manufactured his first prototype for emitting acoustic signals but due to various economic difficulties he never managed to patent it. It is said that he invented this device to communicate his office with the bedroom. In this way he could communicate with his wife who was bedridden.

Several inventors of the time were investigating the transmission of acoustic signals at a distance and, although it cannot be proven, it seems that the design of the invention fell into the hands of Graham Bell. This, in the year 1876, officially patented it, being recognized for many years as the inventor of the telephone, until in 2002 the United States Congress recognized Meucci as its legitimate inventor.

The operating system was maintained for almost a century, until mobile telephony began to be developed in the 1970s. Although it is true that variations were developed such as the introduction of numerical dialing that came to replace the operators that connected calls manually. The high volume of calls and the exorbitant increase in the number of telephones in operation made it necessary to change the system.

Mobile phone:

The first mobile call in history was made from the Motorola company. It was the project’s chief engineer, Martin Cooper, who, from a street in New York, called his direct competitor in the market to tell her that they had succeeded.

Since then, the mobile phone has evolved significantly, one could almost say that it has mutated into a personal computer, but it continues to be the largest means of communication globally.

Curiosities:

The first SMS that was sent said “Happy Christmas” (merry Christmas). This service during the first years was free to operate until it became excessively popular and began to charge for each message sent.

It is estimated that there are more mobile phone lines than people in the world. The statistical average is 1.5 lines per person.

Apple’s announcements are always presented at 9:41 as it was the time that Steve Jobs presented the iPhone.
