Parent company Snap’s operations are in trouble, and “Ice Popsicle” zenly will be forced to close in 2/3 of next year

Economic headwinds hit the large technology industry, and Snap, the parent company of social media Snapchat, can’t escape. The stock price has plummeted 77% this year, and it has to lay off employees and cut costs. The “zenly” app acquired in 2017 has also reported plans to close . According to the zenly community announcement, the app will be shut down on February 3, 2023.

High school students love to use zenly, nicknamed “popsicle” and “monkey catching artifact”. It is a social map app acquired by Snap in 2017. Users can share their life and location, as well as check the location of their friends. After the acquisition, the zenly team has been operating independently, but this time Snap has reorganized and cut 20% of its employees. The zenly team has also been laid off, and even all members of the team have been dismissed.

The zenly community announcement pointed out that the recent economic environment makes it difficult for zenly to operate normally and will be closed on February 3, 2023. However, Snap seems to be doing a good job, recommending zenly users who like to share their locations with each other to use Snapchat’s Snap map to continue exploring the world.

The official announcement also stated that after the 60-day closure period of zenly, all user data will be deleted, and personal data can be downloaded before closing, and Snap will not retain any user data.
